Fast Cars and Laptops
Technology is fast and furious in the twenty-first century. It epitomises our rat race culture. Whatever runs fast and powerfully is a winner. The faster you get to the finish line, the better, and the faster you download the latest software the better. Acer’s Ferrari 1000 notebook is a toy for any boy and girl. According the creators, it uses the cutting edge technology used in Formula One cars to bring a stylish and high-tech laptop to the general public.
The carbon casing is derived from the sleek Ferrari race car, hence its name. The colour is not a bright red, but instead a demure black with a subtle red boarder and the Ferrari symbol is inscribed on the lid of the laptop as well as on the keypad. I’m not a huge Formula One or Ferrari fan, I prefer the classier classic, the Aston Martin. But this laptop is a real beauty, even for me. It may appeal to the many of us that will never afford a sports car but like the raciness they represent. When I think of a Ferrari, I think of an Italian sweet talker with charming manners and rippling muscles. Everyone has their own associations. For someone else it may represent success, power and excitement.
The associations are not lost on the Ferrari 1000. Your first inclination is to stroke its casing, like you might stroke a car’s bonnet. Next you want to open it slowly and carefully, like you are stepping into your new car for the first time. You feel around for keys and then off you go – you are ready to race away and explore. And there is plenty to explore. Ferrari 1000 is one of the highest-performing lightweight notebooks available. It weighs a meager 1.7 kilos and comes with the latest AMD Turion 64 X2 dual-core processor. As with any sports car, it is also not short of extra features. The CystalBrite widescreen and OrbiCam give a view just as good as any sparkling windscreen.
People’s lives are getting busier. Top executives need to move around quickly and demand information instantly. The features consistent with the famous Ferrari race car are this notebook’s main selling point. It won’t be heavy on the arm, and you won’t have to wait around in frustration for the computer to process information. I would drive one of these treasures any day.
