A Very Interesting History

It is amazing how a product seems to manage a rather rocky road when it comes to the businesses that create them. Take for example Veritas Backup Exec Software. It was first developed by Maynard Electronic under the name “MaynStream”. In 1989 Maynard was acquired by Archive Corp. Four years later, Archive Corp. is acquired by Conner Peripherals. Conner immediately renames the MaynStream software to “Backup Exec “. Then Conner merges Quest Development Corp. with it’s existing software programs and renames this division Arcada Software. In 1996, Conner is acquired by Seagate Technologies and Arcada is merged with subsidiary Seagate Software. Then, 3 years later VERITAS Software acquires a Seagate software division which happens to include Backup Exec. I’ve been on roller coasters with less turns
