State Health Insurance in Georgia

Georgia state health insurance is a plan designed to cover those who otherwise do not have health insurance coverage. Other options are of course group health coverage through one’s employer, group insurance through an association such as the Printers alliance or CPA society, or individual coverage.

There is a limited guaranteed coverage state and anyone can get individual coverage with a premium based on current state of health. This can be prohibitively expensive and does not necessarily cover pre-existing conditions. The state defines those as any condition for which medical advice, diagnosis, care, or treatment is sought in no more than 2 years before individual coverage begins.

This can mean prohibitively expensive costs so state created plans can help. These include the PeachCare for Kids program for children, which is free or low cost to low income families but covers children only.

Adults can seek coverage through the state through the Georgia Health Partnership or GHP. This comprehensive agency manages Medicaid, Medicare, and other adult-based programs. GHP lists income requirements and all Medicaid and other indigent care benefits.

Another state administered program is the Right from the Start Medicaid program. This plan covers otherwise uninsured pregnant women. The program also continues to cover the child until the age of 19 and provides comprehensive and preventative care.
