Avoidance
I wonder how much influence the health care providers have in determining how much information on malpractice gets out to the public. Just gathering and making available medical malpractice statistics on those cases where charges are filed seems to leave a lot of data unreported. I know the major health plans, hospitals and doctors would not want it known if their facilities or practices were far above the national averages on non reported instances. It would be easy to compile a listing of cases by age treated as compared to age lost. If a particular doctor or health care facility is far above the national average they could be avoided.
