The Proper Usage of Fixatives in Pastel Art

Creating an appealing piece of pastel art is not an easy task. Pastel colors may start to loose their texture after a couple of days. Fixatives are therefore used to protect and preserve the artifact from getting spoilt. There are temporary, workable and permanent fixatives available in the market. Temporary fixatives last for a shorter period of time. It is therefore recommended, that you opt for workable fixatives so that they don’t mix with each layer of your color pastels. But, make sure that you avoid spraying multiple layers of it on your art, as multiple layers can damage your art. Try to spread the fixative evenly on the surface and don’t leave it for too long in an area. Fixatives could also be harmful for your painting, it is therefore recommended to experiment them first on your practice drawings.
